Georgioupolis
Georgioupolis this well-known tourist resort lies
at the northern coast of Crete, at the end of Hania prefecture (about 35km away
from Hania town) and the beginning of Rethymno prefecture (about 20 km from
Rethimno town). Tall eucalyptus trees ring the beautiful delta of Almiros river that ends at the
harbor of the village which is a very lively place. The river delta enhanced
with a small breakwater extending in the sea serves even today as a port for
fishing and small tourist boats. The beach stretches for miles and you can hire pedals
and
meander along the reed-lined river.
You will also find many cafes and taverns as well as a well organized shopping
area and many resorts for your accommodation. Though this village still keeps
its own character nad its traditional atmosphere. From Georgioupolis you can visit
very easily both Hania and Rethymno town and it is recommended to take a walk to
the nearby Lake of Kournas. There are excursions by small boats to the
surrounding beaches.
Falassarna
Falassarna is a quiet resort, with many small hotels, apartments and taverns, close to the wonderful sandy beach. One of the most beautiful stretched sandy beaches in Crete, "Pahia Ammos" , is located south of Falassarna.
Kissamos
Kissamos is the most western town on the island and is relatively undeveloped touristy. Its charm is its location in a wide bay with green hills behind.
Kolimbari
This seaside village with a long pebble beach is a very attractive village for quiet and relaxing vacation. You can hire a fishing boat and make a two to three hours trip to the ruins of the ancient town of Diktineon , built on the tip of the Rodhopou peninsula.
Kournas
(Lake Kourna)
This is the only lake on Crete island and it is surrounded by mountains close to Georgioupolis bay. In this fresh water lake you can swim or rent pedals. Don't be afraid of sea snakes , they are not poisonous and do not bite. It is worth to stay for dinner at the one of the few taverns that lie at the lake coast and watch the sun go down behind the mountains and watch the lake changing color.
Paleohora
Paleohora lies at the base of a small peninsula and is the second biggest town of southern Crete after Ierapetra. The island of Gavdos is visible from here and most of its inhabitants live now at Paleohora. ''The bride of the Libyan sea' as it was named by the locals is a popular tourist resort thanks to its long sandy beach and the little pretty inlets. The town center is also made up of taverns and cafes. In summer time Paleohora is transformed by the huge number of tourists. Though the atmosphere remains relaxed and you can still find unspoiled areas in the mountains and many small beaches especially on the west side of the town waiting to be explored. During the summer small ships provide tour to the beaches around the island and other small villages like Sfakia, Sougia, Loutro and Elafonissi.
Vamos.
This wonderful village has known a great development during the last years
not due to the tourism but due to the local efforts to create an
association for the preservation of the village and
for the promotion of their local products. The village is
truly exceptionally interesting
that the Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works has
classed as traditional.
Their organization guarantees that you will love this place and you would like
to stay for relaxed vacation.
We recommend the visit at Vamos village which is is
perfectly organized like a small town. You can taste the wonderful local cuisine at the well known
tavern 'Sterna tou Bloomossifi' and you can also buy local products. The
village is wonderful and offers alternative relaxing vacation. The last years
beautiful traditional resorts have been created where you can enjoy a wonderful stay.
Sfakia plateau
It is the most densely populated plateau of Crete. This area was once barren and inaccessible and known for its fearless inhabitants who, throughout history resisted occupation. Not even the Turks were able to completely suppress the people of Sfakia, fact for which Cretan are still very proud of. Sfakia' s inhabitants still keep their hard attitude and grow potatoes and cultivate vines, fruits and walnuts. You will find many taverns where you can taste the local specialty ''Sfakianes pites'' meaning pancakes filled with cheese and brushed with honey.
Chora Sfakion.
Located in a bay this main town of Sfakia is a very pretty village with its white houses and the narrow streets. It is always crowded by tourists who are brought here by boats from Aghia Roumeli after the Samaria gorge walk in order to get their road back to the place they stay. Glika Nera is a nice beach where salt and fresh water meet. Caiques depart daily in the morning for various destinations and come back in the afternoon.
Souda
Souda is a harbor village located on a huge totally natural sheltered bay which is the ferry and cargo port of Chania and also the most important maritime center of Crete. You will find taxi and buses for Chania and Rethymnon town when you get there by ferry.

This little village of about 70 inhabitants is located at the south coast and has a long beautiful pebble beach with caves which provide wonderful shady places to lie in. There are numerous rooms to say and taverns to eat after your swim. The road from Hania is in good condition and passes through the mainland which is of an impressive beauty.
